Still alive and spawning Orcs

I haven't had a chance to post anything on her in a while now. Nor have I had much opportunity to get much gaming or painting in the last month or two. But I have done a little and while I haven't been making much headway on getting miniatures painted I have added a fair number of new troops to the growing Orc horde. They are not all GW miniatures but they all do fit into the Oldhammer feel. There are even a few modern GW squigs running around - they are great miniatures and I love the comedy and chaos they bring to a game. - used only when playing a modern game of Warhammer though, unless there is a 3rd edition equivalent I could substitute them for?

Anyhow, by way of inspiring myself I took a few pics of the entire Orc collection so far. I think I have enough now to keep me happy for a long time, so now I can look at adding a few of the more exotic elements to the army. I definitely need more warmachines!

So much painting still to do! As soon as I finish another unit I will take much nicer photos and put some more pictures up.

  1. Very nice collection, and old style terrain, they will look great when fully painted. Good idea to use whatever figures you like, be they old or new. It fits in with the Oldhammer ethos. I am already seeing posts and comments that imply only old GW figures should be in use, which brings the whole OH renaissance back to square one....barking.
    cheers

    1. Thanks Mike :) it is a bit of using what I have more than the miniatures I really want but they are all still very much to theme so it's all ok.

  2. Great looking horde! Loving the bright orange Squigs!
Have to echo what Springinsfield said above- old or new, it doesn't matter! Oldhammer is about personal expression and creativity. The more variety, the better.

    1. Squigs are great, they add lots of character to an Orc army. Might need to use them as war hounds or something in 3rd edition.

  3. Use whatever figures you like....I do.

I am a great fan of old Citadel lead but there is a lot of excellent new stuff out there as well. I have also noticed a few comments lately about using only old Citadel miniatures which is exactly the nonsense Oldhammer is against. Well that is my understanding of oldhammer anyway.

The army is looking good and will keep you busy for sometime.

    1. It certainly is going to keep me busy for sometime! Then there is the Khorne Chaos band that is allied to the Orcs (some would say using them for their own purposes - but don't tell the Warboss that)

  4. Wow!! What an impressive looking horde! I love the mix of figures you have assembled, especially all those pre-slottas! It really has the feel of a true gathering of tribes. I look forward to seeing them all painted up and in action. Great blog too, by the way.

    1. Many thanks Private Weird :)I need to get over a bit of a painting slump at the moment and get another unit out so they can gain some momentum again.

  5. Oh this brings back memories of my 80's Orc Army that I sold on Ebay, in photo 1, is that orc with the big chopper and pointy hat based on a NL chronicle orc or is he a NL Chronicle orc?

    1. The model you are referring to (I think) is indeed a Nick Lund scupt. He is actually meant to be with the Eeza Ugezod's Mother Crushers unit as he is the champion model for them. I actually have 2 of the models, there is another lurking in the 3rd photo. http://www.solegends.com/citrr/rr18mothercrushersm1.htm

  6. Lol, you think you need more warmachines, i used to think that, they look great in the collection but don't ever expect an orc warmachine to earn its points- i have loads and never seem to hit anything.

  7. It’s all about the intimidation factor. They look “well ‘ard” and that’s what really counts! :D

    1. I agree, you should always use models that you enjoy seeing on the table rather than auto win stuff.
